We all know we should drink more water, and sipping has become an All-American habit. Think of all the places we can stroll while sipping, places we never could before.

Diet sodas may not help you stay trim after all, new research suggests. A study presented at a recent American Diabetes Association meeting suggests drinking diet soda may be associated with larger waists in humans. “Data suggests that the promotion of diet sodas and artificial sweeteners as healthy alternatives may be ill-advised,” study researcher Helen P. Hazuda, Ph.D., a professor and chief of clinical epidemiology at the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio’s School of Medicine, said in a statement. “They may be free of calories but not of consequences.” Continue reading
