Scallop while you Snorkel in Crystal River FL
Marty Martindale

Every year from July 1 to mid- September, scalloping comes to Citrus County, just 80 miles north of Tampa. Part snorkeling experience, part treasure dive and part saltwater fishing trip, scalloping along the shores of the Crystal River and the Homosassa provides adventure for everyone. Citrus County’s bay (smaller) scallops rest under about five to six feet of water, just offshore along the grassy waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Basically, all it takes is a snorkel, a mask, mesh bag and a Saltwater Fishing License to get in on the action.

Searching for scallops is a favorite Florida pastime, and the Plantation on Crystal River invites scallop seekers to come hunt for this delicious treasure. The newly-renovated Plantation on Crystal River is offering a unique and affordable weekday packages for the scalloping season this year. And, the chef will clean and cook the day’s harvest for your dinner! The scalloping package includes:

  • Chef will prepare the fresh days harvest  (scallops or fish) and serve with two sides
  • Breakfast daily
